Feb. 5, 2009 - On April 4, skip the records store and check out the sale at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Wilson Library. The Southern Folklife Collection (SFC) is bringing back the classics in a record sale from 9:30 a.m. to noon in the Pleasants Family Assembly Room on the main floor of Wilson.

Thousands of country, bluegrass, blues, and rock recordings will be sold. Items consist of LPs, 45 rpm records, and audio cassettes. Artists include Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Flatt & Scruggs, Woody Guthrie, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Pete Seeger, and Hank Williams.

Each record will be individually priced at fair market value and is either a duplicate or beyond the scope of the SFC, says Steve Weiss, SFC sound and image librarian. The proceeds will go to the SFC.

This will be the SFC's second record sale. The first, held in 2000, raised $4,000.

"What I hope comes from the sale are funds to help support the SFC and an opportunity for fans and collectors to enjoy the music," says Weiss.
