Bluegrass multi-instrumentalist Tim O'Brien will speak about his music and career in a question-and-answer event Feb. 27 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
"A Conversation with Grammy-winning musician Tim O'Brien" will begin at 10 a.m. in the Hanes Arts Center Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. UNC music professor Jocelyn Neal will moderate the program, which is sponsored by the Library's Southern Folklife Collection.
A native of West Virginia, O'Brien sings and plays guitar, fiddle, mandolin, bouzouki, and mandocello. The International Bluegrass Music Association twice awarded him the male vocalist of the year award (1993, 2006). As founder of the O'Boys and co-founder and lead vocalist of Hot Rize and Red Knuckles & the Trailblazers, O'Brien has released more than 20 albums that include solo work, duets with his sister, Mollie O'Brien, and Bob Dylan covers ("Red on Blonde").
