Santa Claus: America's Jolly Old Elf in the 20th Century. Selections from the Kellam Collection of "The Night Before Christmas."

A free public display of 20th-century editions of Clement Clark Moore's immortal "Night Before Christmas" just inside the entrance of Davis Library will run through December 31, 2002.

The display, part of the UNC Libraries' Rare Book Collection, features over three dozen items from the more than 1,000 pieces collection related to the poem. This year's display focuses on the book editions depicting Santa throughout the 20th century and to the present day.

In 1978, the late William Porter Kellam, a native of McLeanville and UNC-Chapel Hill librarian from 1931-34, donated his "Night Before Christmas" collection in honor of his daughter and in memory of his son.
