Black History Month Resources
February is Black History Month. Resources throughout the library support research and learning about the contributions of African-Americans.
-
Libraries with strong collections related to black history include the Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History Library, Davis Library, Wilson Library, the Sloane Art Library, and the Music Library.
-
The Stone Center Library's searchable Web guide to black culture and history sites points to more than 500 resources, each described and grouped by subject.
-
Documenting the American South, the library's premiere digital publishing initiative, honors Black History Month by highlighting
important dates for African American history in North Carolina. Entries link to books, memoirs, images and other items from DocSouth's rich online collections.
-
More than two dozen research databases and nearly sixty online journals explore topics related to black history, from the A.M.E. Church Review to the Twentieth-Century African-American Poetry database. (Many of these resources require a UNC PID for off-campus access.)
-
Nearly 1,000 films relevant to Black History Month are in the Media Resources Center in the Undergraduate Library.
-
The exhibit "Slavery and the Making of the University" will be on view in Wilson Library's Manuscripts Department (4th floor) through Feb. 28.
