Mandolin virtuoso David Grisman will speak about his music and career in a question-and-answer event on Monday, March 5. The program will take place from 11 a.m. to noon in the Pleasants Family Assembly Room of Wilson Library. It is free and open to the public.

Grisman, a musician, composer, bandleader, teacher and record producer, has crafted his own sound and perfected it over nearly forty years. The distinctive mix that Grisman terms "dawg" music brings together swing, bluegrass, Latin, jazz and gypsy.

Grisman will discuss his role in the evolution of progressive bluegrass and the jazz/bluegrass hybrids of the past three decades. UNC music professor Jocelyn Neal will moderate the discussion, which is sponsored by the library's Southern Folklife Collection and Carolina Performing Arts.

For information about the question-and-answer event in Wilson Library, contact Steve Weiss (919-962-1345).

David Grisman will perform on Sunday, March 4 at 2 p.m. in UNC's Memorial Hall as part of the Carolina Performing Arts Series.
