Campus Network Software Migration: August 6-8 |
During the weekend of August 6-8, the campus data network will undergo a major upgrade. Portions of campus will be affected at different times. Check Information Technology Services' (ITS) website for additional information about this major project. |
Health Sciences Library are scheduled to be unavailable from 2:00 AM until 5:00 AM on Saturday morning, August 7th. Staff working on the migration may encounter problems which may affect this schedule. The timeline on the ITS website reflects their best judgment about the probable schedule. |
Services affected in this early morning time period include: the libraries' web servers, the libraries' catalog; lists of databases and electronic journals, the libraries' proxy server for access to licensed resources, and other services that rely upon network access. |
Library hours will be maintained during the weekend on the intersession schedule. Patrons coming to the libraries that are open during this time period should be aware that network access and the services provided through the campus network may be disrupted at times. Disruptions may affect network-based services including: computer workstations and servers, copiers, printers, TarHeel Tellers/OneCard machines, and internet access (including wireless). |
Even if the libraries do experience disruptions, patrons will be able to use those libraries that are open that weekend to study, to browse the print collections, and to check out materials. |
Based upon the information the libraries have, we expect ITS staff will do everything they can to minimize the disruption and the inconvenience. The new network software management environment will make the campus network more reliable. It will be more resilient to attacks from viruses, worms and other such mischief-makers and will also limit the campus-wide impact of any such events. We apologize for any inconvenience you may experience while this important work is in progress. |
