Lee Smith, who for years has made a name for herself as a force in Southern literature, will read from her most recent novel at the Louis Round Wilson Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Tuesday, Sept. 26.

Author of 10 novels and three collections of short stories, Smith weaves a touching biography of an orphan girl in the Reconstruction-era South in "On Agate Hill," from which she will read at the event. Smith's previous novel, "The Last Girls," garnered critical accolades and a spot on the New York Times bestsellers list.

A reception will begin at 5 p.m. and the reading will start at 5:45 p.m. Both will be held in the Pleasants Family Assembly Room of Wilson Library.

This event is free, open to the public and is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Library and Bull's Head Bookshop. There will be copies of Smith's works for sale.
