Music Library on the Move

The Music Library will be moving to its temporary new location on the ground floor of Wilson Library during the month of June 2003. While the collection has been housed in Hill Hall for the past 70 years, unfortunately the facilities in Hill have, for some time, been inadequate for the Music Library's size, and the safety of its materials. There is no room to add anything new without putting other materials in storage, and floods during inclement weather regularly put this invaluable collection at risk. With the kind co-operation and encouragement of the Chancellor and the Provost, we will be transferring the collection and services of the Music Library to a remodeled space in Wilson Library, with the rest of the library's special collections.

The Music Library will close on May 31 when our staff will begin preparing the collection for the actual move beginning on June 9. We hope to welcome you to our newly renovated facilities in Wilson Library on Monday, June 23, 2003. Our new space will be able to hold all our materials, even those items previously kept in storage. Some of the new features include: more computer work stations, carrels for faculty and graduate students, a seminar room, separate listening and viewing facilities, a newly constructed circulation desk, adequate shelving, a new security detection unit, and a comfortable lounge filled with natural lighting for reading and studying. Best of all, the new library will have more study space and a much more inviting atmosphere.

Please visit us in our new space at the end of June. We will be happy to show you around.
