The Scribal Art: Medieval and Renaissance Manuscripts in the Rare Book Collection. Rare Book Collection, Wilson Library, Fall 2002.
This exhibit explores the development of handwriting from the late Roman era into the fifteenth century, when script made the transition into type. It features manuscripts dating from the Carolingian Renaissance of the ninth century, Gothic manuscripts of the high Middle Ages, and manuscripts of the fifteenth century Renaissance. The manuscripts include Bibles and devotional works, works of science and astrology, law, history, theology, and classical literature, all illustrating aspects of Medieval and Renaissance civilization.
There will be a reception and gallery talk by exhibit curator, Roberta Engleman, September 12, 2002 beginning at 5:00 to celebrate the opening of this exhibit. This event is sponsored by the Academic Affairs Library and the Rare Book Collection.
