Important Change to Catalog Telnet

Access to the character-based (non-Web) version of the Library's new catalog now requires a secure shell (SSH) connection rather than telnet. This allows us to provide a higher level of security against electronic intruders. Any library patrons wishing to connect to the UNC-Chapel Hill Library's catalog can download a free copy of PuTTY. This will allow them to create SSH connections to the catalog.

(Macintosh/Linux/UNIX users can use the built-in Terminal program. Connection settings are below.)

username: library
password: <blank>

Once you have downloaded PuTTY, follow these simple instructions to set up and connect:

PuTTY is an executable file that needs no installation.
Start PuTTY and the connection configuration screen will appear.
Enter library.unc.edu into the field labeled 'hostname'.
Select SSH protocol.
Navigate to Connection, then Data in left-most column.
Enter library into the field labeled 'Auto-login username'.
Return to first screen by selecting Session from left-most column.
Enter an appropriate name into the field labeled 'Saved Sessions'. Click 'Save'.
Click 'Open' at the bottom to log into the UNC-Chapel Hill Libraries catalog. Click Yes at the PuTTY Security Alert Screen.
