TRLN Joins Public Library of Science

TRLN Joins Public Library of Science

Effective September 1, 2004, the four universities (Duke University, North Carolina Central University, North Carolina State University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) that comprise the Triangle Research Libraries Network (TRLN) are members of the Public Library of Science.

PLoS is a publisher whose mission is to make scientific and medical literature a public resource, freely available to all. PLoS currently publishes two journals, PLoS Biology and PLoS Medicine (October 2004). The TRLN consortial membership provides scientists affiliated with member institutions a 50% reduction in fees for publishing in PLoS journals.

Several scientists in the Triangle serve on editorial boards of the two journals. As an open-access publisher, the Public Library of Science capitalizes on the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of digital technology to remove barriers from the dissemination of scientific information.
