Kate Barnhart grew up in a musical family and began playing guitar at an early age. The dulcimer and "clawhammer" style banjo soon followed and she regularly performed with various folk groups. She is currently the donor relations coordinator for the University Library Development Office.

North Carolina native poet Jeffery Beam is the author of sixteen adult works of poems including An Elizabethan Bestiary: Retold, and an enhanced spoken word CD What We Have Lost: New & Selected Poems 1977-2001 (2003 Audio Publishers Five Finalists Award from the Audio Publishers Association), and a recent chapbook, Gospel Earth. His first children's book "Lullaby of the Farm" is seeking a publisher. Jeffery is also writing an opera based on the myth of Demeter and Persephone, and a book of poems "Life of the Bee." He is the assistant to the biology librarian - Botany Section, and is also poetry editor of Oyster Boy Review. An interview with Jeffery appeared this year in Virginia Libraries.

Jill Shires holds degrees in Flute Performance from University of Illinois and Yale University. She was a freelance musician in Los Angeles for over a decade. Her claim to fame: she played flute on the Tams' hit, "What Kind of Fool Do You Think I Am?" Jill is a head of music cataloging for the UNC-CH Library.
