Friends of the Library's 15th annual Winter Stories program, themed "Holiday Spirits," promises to warm spirits of children of all ages on Dec. 6 in Wilson Library. The fun will begin with refreshments in the main lobby at 5 p.m. and continue with seasonal tales and music at 5:30 p.m. in the Pleasants Family Assembly Room.

"Holiday Spirits" will feature storytelling by Brian Sturm, associate professor at UNC's School of Information and Library Science (SILS) and SILS master's students Elizabeth Matson, Libby Gorman, and Lisa Long. On the program will be "Amaterasu," a tale of the Japanese sun goddess; an Appalachian folk tale titled "Jack and the Robbers;" a Norwegian story called "The Trolls Come Knocking;" and Sturm's telling of "When Bear Stole the Chinook," a Native American story from the Siksika people.

Music throughout the evening will be provided by Kate Barnhart (guitar), library assistant in the Information and Library Science Library; SILS students Laurie Neuerburg (flute), Paul Causey (guitar), and Sarah Alward (violin); and local musicians Jeff Crawford (bass) and Carter Gaj (guitar).

The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available in most campus lots after 5 p.m. For more information, contact Liza Terll at 919-962-4207.
