Breaking Racial Barriers: African Americans in the Harmon Foundation This site includes portraits of notable African Americans. The portraits were included in a traveling exhibition in the 1940s and 1950s that was designed to “reverse racial intolerance, ignorance and bigotry by illustrating the accomplishments of contemporary African Americans.” The site also includes brief biographical sketches.
