Slave Narratives
Featuring audio narration by Maya Angelou and others, this interactive site provides a selection of slave narratives and personal stories from several individuals who suffered under the system of slavery. The site, based on the Slavery Passage Gallery exhibit at the Museum of the African Diaspora, includes biographies for each of the individuals highlighted, as well as dramatic audio narratives about their experiences in slavery. Voices from the Days of Slavery
This site presents the Library Of Congress’ American Folklife Center collection of recorded interviews with ex-slaves discussing their first hand experiences. The interviews can be searched or browsed by subject, name, or place, and full text transcripts and audio of the interviews in their entirety are included.
