Volunteers from across the state and country traveled to the coastal region to help build new homes and clean the mud and debris from homes that were flooded but not destroyed. Storm survivors speak of the renewal of hope and rise in spirits these volunteers brought to flooded areas. In some cases, residents could not have afforded to rebuild without the generous efforts of volunteers because of the high cost of labor for new construction.
