Analyze: The Worker Profiles
Analyze the following profiles of tobacco bag stringers from Rockingham County, North Carolina. As you read, pay careful attention to each worker's income, both from tobacco bag stringing and from other sources, as well as their expenses. You may want to print out a chart to help you keep track. For each worker and his or her family, determine how much income they have left over after their expenses are paid. From this amount, determine how much should be spent on food. Remember, some of the workers live on farms and raise some portion of their food, so you'll need to take this into account. This activity is going to require some math, so get ready to calculate!
