American Indian Movement
American Indian activist organization begun in 1968 and made famous by its 1972 seizure of the Bureau of Indian Affairs and a 1973 standoff at Wounded Knee, South Dakota. The movement has led protests, fought against the use of indigenous caricatures as mascots for sports teams, and works toward improving the conditions of life for American Indians.

American Indian Policy Center
The Center provides accurate information to government leaders, policy makers, and the public regarding the legal and political history of American Indian nations.

Association of American Indian Affairs
The AAIA supports efforts to sustain and propagate American Indian culture and language, attempts to protect sovereignty, rights, and natural resources, and seeks to improve American Indian education, health, and community development.

Index of Native American Organizations on the Internet
Provides an A-Z listing of roughly 150 American Indian organization websites.

National Congress of American Indians
The NCAI is the major national tribal government organization, and it works to monitor federal policy and coordinate efforts to inform federal decisions that impact the interests of tribal government.

National Indian Education Association
The NIEA is "committed to increasing educational opportunities and resources for American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian students while protecting our cultural and linguistic traditions." It is the oldest and largest American Indian education organization in the United States.

National Indian Gaming Association
The goal of the NIGA is to economically, socially, and politically advance the lives of American Indians. It provides a great number of educational, legislative, and public policy resources for tribes, policy-makers, and the general public.

National Tribal Justice Resource Center
"The National Tribal Justice Resource Center is the largest and most comprehensive site dedicated to tribal justice systems, personnel and tribal law. The Resource Center is the central national clearinghouse of information for Native American and Alaska Native tribal courts, providing both technical assisstance and resources for the development and enhancement of tribal justice system personnel."

Native American Cultural Center
The Center promotes the culture of American Indians and examines the contemporary issues that American Indians must face. The Center seeks to shed light on American Indian culture by hosting events such as study breaks, movie nights, presentations, and dinners.

Native American Rights Fund
"Native American Rights Fund (NARF) is the oldest and largest nonprofit law firm dedicated to asserting and defending the rights of Indian tribes, organizations and individuals nationwide."

Tribal Law and Policy Institute
The Institute is an American Indian owned and operated non-profit corporation set up to design and deliver research, education, training, and technical assistance programs which promote justice, health, and culture in Indian country.
