Locating Songs

Most songs are published in collections, so the best way to find them is by searching for the title of the song by KEYWORD. This search looks at the table of contents of collections of music as well as the title of the item.

Catalog | Advanced Search | New Books | Classic Catalog | Search TRLN | WorldCat

If you know the composer of the work, include it with the title in your KEYWORD search.

Keyword: Schubert im dorfe

Keyword: Williams bright is the ring of words

You can also specify a particular performer.

Keyword: amarilli caccini Bartoli

Use the options on the left side of your results page to refine your search by format or other parameter(s): Music (Printed Music, Music Recordings), Audio, Subject (Song cycles, Songs (Medium voice) with piano), etc.

If you have trouble finding the song in the catalog, search for it in the WORKS list under the composer's name in Grove Music Online. If that doesn't work, trying using the song indexes outside of the Viewing Room in the Music Library. You can also look in WorldCat to find the edition of the song you want and request it on Interlibrary Loan.
